I wonder if anyone's ever done a study on the cultivation and spread of adolescent rumors or childish urban legends. Adult urban legends are fucking boring; they're either so realistic that, who cares, or they're obviously a creative writing prank.
With kids though, they're simple and tap into a basic hunger for something. But what? Is it to believe that the world waiting for us is an exciting one? To believe we're better than our peers? Or is it just a more pure form of our craving for escapism?
So, take notes all you psych majors out there and that goes for you film students too. A clinical documentary with interviews of a bunch of cute grade schoolers talking about stories they heard? There's no way you aren't getting an "A". You're welcome.
