I should be clear, it's a little bit more feminine looking than the interior designs seen in American Psycho, kind of like a Fiona to American Psycho's Finn. While I was growing up it looked more like AP2, by which I don't mean horrible, just that the house looked orderly, not creepy Stepford Wives suburban, but not a New Jack City hell hole either.
It was non-descript, forgettable, as a backdrop should be. But of course, any atmosphere that would have been presented to me as a child, I'd consider to be "normal". For all I know, almost no one else grew up with a sex dungeon in the living room.
And can you really call it a "dungeon" when it's in a one story house? I always figured dungeons to be a basement exclusive deal.
